Shrink-N-Shield® (Nano) is an EMI shielded Polyolefin heat shrink for the smallest of wires. Shrink-N-Shield® (Nano) Can cover diameters as small as 0.0416” in the 3:1 shrink ratio, and 0.0625” in the 2:1 shrink ratio and 0.0469” in the 4:1 shrink ratio.

The cross-linked polyolefin material is flame-retardant, water-resistant, and flexible, making this jacketing ideal for applications that may experience exposure to flames or fluids. The polyolefin material is also military-grade and meets the military specification for MIL-DTL-23053/5C.

Shrink-N-Shield® (Nano) also has two different options for EMI shielding fabrics – Z-3250 and custom Z-7200. The Z-3250 EMI shielding cloth is .004” thick and is made of woven nickel over a copper-plated polyester taffeta material. This cloth is the choice for applications needing extreme flexibility and resistance to environmental degradation. The Z-7200 EMI shielding cloth is .005” thick and is a woven, copper-plated nylon rip-stop material that is also flexible, as well as non-magnetic, halogen-free, and hypoallergenic. This cloth is ideal for applications that cannot use certain magnetic or metal materials. Either shielding cloth will provide exceptional protection from EMI. Additionally, both shielding fabrics are RoHS compliant and offer strong durability for rugged environments.

Shrink-N-Shield® (Nano) is the first Zippertubing® product to offer protection and EMI shielding for extremely small wire diameters. The Shrink-N-Shield® (Nano) in the polyolefin material has an operational temperature range of -67°F to 275°F (-55°C to 135°C).

Class III polyolefin heat-shrink tubing is available upon request.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What lengths of Shrink-N-Shield
are available?

A: Shrink-N-Shield is typically provided in the industry standard 4 ft. long “sticks” of tubing. However, Zippertubing can provide pre-cut pieces of this material if required.

Q: My harness is longer than 4 feet, can I still use this product?

A: Sections of Shrink-N-Shield can be spliced together to create a longer EMI shield. Reference our installation
guide for instructions on how to do this, or speak with one of our design engineers for recommendations on covering longer cables.

Q: What do the 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 variations mean?

A: These shrink ratios refer to how much the material will change in size when heat is applied. To learn more, please refer to this article: Understanding Shrink Ratios of Heat Shrinkable Tubing.

Q: What diameter of tubing do I need?

A: Shrink-N-Shield products are identified by their starting diameter, before recovery or shrinking. It is recommended to choose a size that will result in a diameter equal to, or slightly smaller than, the cable it is covering to achieve a snug fit. For assistance with sizing, you can also contact one of our design engineers.

Q: How should I ground or terminate the ends of this tubing?

A: There are many different ways to terminate and ground Shrink-N-Shield. The Shrink-N-Shield installation guide outlines the three most common ways to ground the EMI shield including a wrapped drain wire, bonded grounding lead, and connector termination.

Q: My installed tubing has small wrinkles and ridges in it, is this normal?

A: Yes. As the tubing shrinks, the EMI shield material may gather more in certain areas than others. This is normal and does not affect the shielding performance of the tubing. If these cosmetic imperfections are an issue we recommend trying a smaller size of tubing.
