What Is Shrink-N-Shield?

Shrink-N-Shield is a heat-shrinkable shielding solution available in multiple sizes and shrink ratios. It's designed to offer flexibility and durability without sacrificing protection — even when cables move or bend.

Here’s what makes Shrink-N-Shield stand out:

  • Flexibility: Maintains its shielding effectiveness even when cables are in motion.
  • Durability: Flame-retardant and abrasion resistant polyolefin jacketing is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 275°F.
  • Consistent Performance: Provides reliable EMI shielding with quick, uniform, and repeatable installation.

What About Traditional Foil Tape?

Foil tape is a tried-and-true method for EMI shielding, especially for projects that are sensitive to budget constraints. It's easy to find through major suppliers, making it a convenient option for general projects.

However, foil tape isn’t without its challenges:

  • Durability Issues: With repeated cable movement foil tape can form cracks or pinholes, which can compromise its shielding capabilities.
  • Installation Variability: Getting a consistent application requires careful handling. Installations can vary from person to person and may result in decreased EMI shielding.
  • Time Consuming Installation:  Achieving a consistent installation can be a slow process.  Additionally, if an outer protective dielectric layer is required, this adds a secondary step into the processing. 

 


 Which Option Should You Choose?

If you need a flexible, durable, and long-lasting shielding solution, Shrink-N-Shield is likely your best bet. Its ability to withstand harsh environments and cable movement makes it ideal for demanding applications.

On the other hand, if you are troubleshooting, need something more temporary, or your project isn’t exposed to a lot of movement or environmental stress — foil tape might fit the bill.

Ultimately, the right choice depends on your specific application, budget, and performance needs.
