Secondary Cable Jacketing to Meet Health Care Equipment Installation Code

PROBLEM:

A medical imaging device manufacturer failed to pass a code inspection during their preliminary installation walk-through.  This potential non-conformance threatened to delay their schedule and the delivery and activation of their system to their healthcare provider customer. 

REQUIREMENTS:

During the equipment inspection, it was noted by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) inspector that some cables carrying different voltages were routed through shared conduit.  According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and National Electrical Code (NEC), for this class of installation these cables needed to be separated and routed through their own conduit.  This customer needed a way to add secondary jacketing to their cables running from the power and control units to the imaging device with limited space and on a system that was already in place.

SOLUTION:

Zippertubing provided several diameter sizes of Zip-On (63), UL recognized, high-performance flexible PVC cable jacketing.  This proven cable jacketing solution would provide the secondary dielectric insulation sleeving required by the code inspection, while providing flexibility and a wrap-around, in-place, installation the customer needed. 

CONCLUSION:

The customer was able to quickly procure the necessary jacketing from Zippertubing and install on their existing equipment harnesses.  Thanks to the wrap-around installation style of this jacketing, they did not need to re-route cabling or move the equipment that was already in place.  The follow-up code inspection passed and the customer was able to keep the contract delivery date to their end user.
